My view of Maedhros after Thangorodrim is so very specific and it always feels kind of hard to nail it down because it’s like — i do think he’d have very obviously been traumatized and fundamentally scarrred, but I don’t actually think that would’ve manifested in like… panic attacks and self-hatred. I do think he would’ve set most of his mind to war and the safety of his brothers and people, but I don’t actually think this negates that he also enjoyed himself, just that it wouldn’t take the same form as it did before his capture. I don’t think he had much hope, but I don’t think he was despairing either; I think he had a pretty decent idea what they were hurling towards, what they had already become, and he simply refused to let Morgoth ruin whatever time they had left on top, to let him under his skin even further. So no, I don’t think he would’ve gone back to caligraphy and pottery, but yes I think he’d have found new, other ways to enjoy himself — going hunting with Finrod and Maglor, exploring Beleriand, finding joy in the craft of building his fortress. Joy in laughing into the face of it all as a matter of principle, because he refuses to do anything but. And yes, he would have been terrific in battle, and yeah the fire of life burnt hot within him, but it did so even hotter than in Fëanor. I think he would have enjoyed slitting the throat of every single Orc and ally of Morgoth that he could get his hands on (and, as justified as he may be in that, with this already feeding the ruthlessness he’d become more and more known for and that’ll eventually, inevitably, devour him). I definitely think he’d have had dark, bitter stretches of time, but I think they’d have manifested more as manic madness, as restlessness, as fury, as laughing like someone possessed and acting and moving, always always moving, going to hunt Orcs for fun, not refusing to leave his bed for days on end or whatever. Stillness would have meant death. Like, Maedhros post-Thangorodrim (and pre-Nirnaeth) to me is very, very specifically without hope but full of petty, vicious, bristling defiance. He’s not gonna make it out alive or un-doom himself, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t make the most of the time he’s snatched from Morgoth, and if he doesn’t make it cost Morgoth, too. He might not win, but you can still lose alongside him. That Elf is full of ancient rage and that’s not the same guy that was revered for his beauty and skill of hand in Valinor but someone already taking his steps down a road that will lead to, yk, all that comes after the Nirnaeth. And the Nirnaeth itself is particularly and singularly devastating to him personally not only because of the loss of Fingon, but because he did allow himself that moment of hope, and paid the price immediately. So what he turns into after is like, the logical consequence of shedding/losing the last bits of defiant joy, that, if not hope for the future had a hope for living at its core, and simply leaning fully and utterly into what he already knew was inevitable.

gotta love how Rapport revealed that from Peri’s family perspective it went and got attached to to the biggest corporate boogeyman short of actual corporate gunship. and frankly it doesn’t fall short at all, because this big bad boy (gn) of rogue SecUnit can hack, extremely well at that, so arguably it IS as dangerous as corporate gunship, just in different way.

ALSO gotta love how you COULD argue that from Dr Mensah perspective, the SecUnit she adopted into family AND her daughter AND her friends went and got kidnapped by a gunship. the gunship left a ransom note. after she catches up to it, it turns out her family and friends befriended bunch of covert anti-corporate criminals and her SecUnit got attached to aforementioned criminal mastermind gunship. the gunship is “officially” a research vessel, very sorry for that kidnapping misunderstanding and politely scrubbed the bloodbath off the floors before she can get onboard. it does great evil voice. it even commits tax fraud.

A reminder that in exit strategy, MB is more then willing and capable of taking over the companies gunship, to the point mensah has to physically tell it to stop, so technically it’s ‘much’ more dangerous then a corporate gunship!
